After technical school, a job at the national radio and TV broadcasting house provided a great opportunity to be involved in some really serious projects and a fantastic learning experience. I got to work with the entire audio chain, from instruments and acoustics to microphones, recorders, mixing consoles, and high-quality monitoring loudspeaker systems. Everything was available if you wanted it, and I wanted it all!
The job of an audio engineer, combined with access to the best and most expensive broadcast/pro gear imaginable, was incredible. This gear also required some service or modifications. We are talking about brands like Studer, Genelec, Neumann, Schoeps, Sennheiser, EMT, and many others.
Additionally, there was a slightly different aspect: sound in feature and documentary films, from recording to post-production and all the field gear involved. This gear had a special aura, including legendary names like Nagra, Sound Devices, Sony, Arri…
